The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michael Barnier will be meeting Theresa May in London today.
The meeting comes days before the European Union summit on Saturday where their Brexit negotiation guidelines are set to be finalised.
Britain’s Brexit bill, the amount the U.K has pay to meet existing financial obligations, is still a raw issue in Whitehall and Brussels, and will dominate negotiations over the Summer.
Recent reports suggest that Government officials are looking into paying extra and contributing to the EU budget until 2020 in return for a more favourable Brexit deal.
Brexit Minister David Davis made his first speech of the campaign today to call for a swift deal to protect the rights of EU citizens living in the U.K.
“The government has made it very clear it wants to secure the rights of EU nationals living in Britain at the earliest chance in the negotiations, Davis said. “I am confident we can achieve a very early agreement on these issues.”
